I have always been intrigued by the nighttime sky. Now NASA has put the sky on earth. The stories these earthside stars tell aren’t quite the same as the ones told by our ancestors as they stared heavenward all those generations ago. Instead of mythological creatures and gods spread across the bowl of the heavens, these stars tell human stories… Stories of lives lived, homes built, trails explored then improved again and again to make it easier for us mortals to travel around. Stories of man’s unrelenting war against darkness… First with fire, then with electricity.
I was just updating things here and noticed the date of the last post… Wow.
One of the many things that has changed over the years is the wallpaper on my computer. In the intervening time I have discovered the artwork of Gary C Myers. He has a blog called Redtree Times. And he posts his paintings and commentary on an almost daily basis… And three of them hang on my walls… Two in my line of sight from this computer. Sadly all are prints only. One day I’ll acquire an original.
But my computer has a revolving slideshow of his images as wallpaper now… Check out some of his paintings HERE.
This print is hanging above our fireplace…
And this one is in our entry…
Gary Myers is an inspiration… He’s a working artist with a prodigious output of amazing images. When I first saw his work it touched something in me I did not expect as his style is not something I would have envisioned myself being drawn to. Nor is it a style I had been drawn to in the past. But, his artwork just clicked for me… Now I find myself getting lost in the individual images/worlds for minutes and minutes at a time as they show up on my screen.
And he is a good and giving man. If he didn’t live across the breadth of the country, I’d be happy to call him a friend and neighbor. As it is I’ll have to be satisfied with a virtual friendship over these inter-nets… And seeing his art whenever I look up… Thanks Gary…
…Amateur work has its own special charm. Freed from the commercial necessities which fetter the professional, the amateur need have nothing but the principles of art for guidance. In this delicious liberty he may well be, and is, envied by those who must yield something to the whim of the buyer….
If it is practiced by a man [or woman!] of taste the photograph will have the appearance of art, but the photographer must intervene as little as possible, so as not to lose the objective charm which it naturally possesses…. Photography should register and give us documents.
You know… It’s been a long, long while since I last posted a political note on this, or any of my other sites. The whole discussion had just gotten too intense. I would probably not be posting now had it not been for a chance encounter with a Texas Conservative while out running errands.
In all of the long conversation we had, we only agreed on one thing… Neither one of us claimed to be a Republican. In actuality, we both went out of our way to assert we were not Republicans. And yet, there is his website giving Tea Party candidate recommendations for the Republican Primary.
There was one other thing we agreed on… Though he claimed to be wanting the conversation so he could understand how I, a liberal, thought. We finally agreed that neither of us would ever understand the other. It’s true too, I do not understand the thought process of the conservative mind.
What is it in conservative thinking that makes everything the government does a conspiracy to control them.
His main argument with me was about how Democrats in the Senate had voted to repeal the first amendment. When I asked him what the bill was they voted on that lead him to that conclusion, he told me to look it up on govtrack. Well I tried and I couldn’t find an obvious choice. So I went searching in Google… And of course, I should have known… Blame it on the Junior Senator from my Great State of Texas. Ted Cruz in his overblown rhetoric has been telling everyone who would listen (most of the videos were from Fox) that the Senate proposal to hold a hearing on “Examining A Constitutional Amendment To Restore Democracy To The American People”. was a repeal of the First Amendmentright to Free Speech. Go figure…
Oh well, it made the wait for my inspection and oil change go a bit faster… But you know what?
I’ll never be a Republican… Not even a Tea Party Republican.
And yes… I do believe in the Constitution of the United States as Amended by the People.
What is it about our Congressional Representatives that forces them to actually tell the truth as they lie about what happened?
Here we have my Congressman, Pete Olson, calling shame upon the President and Democrats for doing something that he and his partners in the House actually did…
The whole statement is full of misstatements and Republican talking points that have little historical basis. But the last sentence comes across as totally true…Just not the way Pete Olson meant it. He is right though, the American people are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
It’s funny how in my time here, I have been shuffled from Congressional District to Congressional District as the Texas Legislature has juggled their gerrymandering of the system. I started out down here stuck with Tom Delay in the 90’s. Then the re-stacked the deck and I got Ron Paul, which I thought was an improvement at the time… Then I got to know his agenda and I wasn’t as impressed. This last re-stacking of the deck put me in Mr Olson’s district.
I forget exactly when and where I first stumbled in front of Lorelle and was hit by her juggernaut of WordPress information and love… But, boy am I glad I did. This year she is starting a new program she is calling New Blog Exercises.
From what I’ve seen so far of her teachings it looks to be a great program to hone those blogging skills. I know I am going to be following her progress through the year (I’ve already added the category feed to my reader).
If you are new to blogging, this would be a good place to start. If you’ve been blogging for a while, you may want to wander over and hone those skills that have gotten rusty… You never know, it might refresh your interest…
