But rather than getting defensive, insisting you are NOT woke, consider firing back by saying, “Of course I’m woke!” For the great majority of Americans, being woke is a very positive characteristic, meaning you’re awake, attentive to what’s going on. Indeed, in Black communities, “stay woke” has long meant staying alert to racial and social injustices. But even some Republicans must consider it bizarrely self-defeating for their party’s top candidates to be urging voters to go to sleep.
This is something I haven’t been able to wrap my head around… Not that there is much today’s Republicans do that I can wrap my head around. But who decided that being “Woke” in today’s world was bad?And once again I find the wisdom being spoken in such a homespun way by Jim Hightower aligning with my own thoughts.
For those of you not versed in Texas politics, you might not know who Jim Hightower even is. He was the8th Agriculture Commissioner of Texas. He served in office from January 1983 to January 1991. Sadly for Texas he lost in 1990 to Rick Perry leading to a dumbing down of Texas and America as Perry climbed to higher offices for the next 25 years.
James Allen Hightower (born January 11, 1943) is an American syndicated columnist, progressive[1][2] political activist, and author. From 1983 to 1991 he served as the elected commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture. He publishes a monthly newsletter that is notable for its in-depth investigative reporting, The Hightower Lowdown.
Now.. If only those Republican nitwits would live up to their own epitaphs and go take a nap or in some other way become unwoke… Just saying…
